  45. Looking at the cartridge port of the ST i can find 16 data connections
  46. but only 15 addresses.

  139. I get a lot off 'that other computer' but it's always from people that have
  140. NEVER achieved anything interesting as computerists or programmers.

  142. I program both machines, and I'm a lot happier going home to my old ST(1985).
  143. Do you know any models of 'the other computer' worth keeping that long?

  172. Tee hee.  I don't even have an ST I'm just stating some facts.  Interlace mode
  173. is no substitute for a good mono 640*400 when doing DTP or WP.  Yes, I know you
  174. can get flicker fixers and all that stuff for Amigas but I did say "the
  175. standard box" didn't I?  I like amigas as well, and no I don't own one, but
  176. come on both machines have strengths.

  258. Level 6 - the level with the "Riddle Room".  I'm caught in a corridor
  259. where a trigger closes the door behind me and none of the three keys I
  260. have will open the other door at the end of the hall.  There is a side
  261. corridor that has a grate and transport field that alternates off and on.
  262. I manage to open the grate with a ZO spell but can't get by the field.
  263.  
  264. Is there a switch to turn this field off?   Or maybe a spell to allow me
  265. to run faster, or some magic item I'm suppose to have?
  266.  
  267. If some kind soul could send me a clue to this section I would be very
  268. happy this Xmas.  I would try and download help files from BART but

  285. I am thinking of posting a flow chart compiler that I've been working on.  If
  286. there is enough interest, I'll post it to atari.archive.umich.edu.  Let me tell
  287. you a little about it:

  289. The compiler accepts a flow chart langauge ASCII file as input.  I designed
  290. the flow chart language and it's called the Flowchart Design Language (FDL).
  291. The language is similar to pseudo-code and very natural.  It is
  292. compiled and the flow chart blocks are displayed in a scrollable GEM
  293. window.  The compiler was built to aid in the design of modular
  294. programs and will display a module complexity metric as it
  295. compiles modules.  The complexity max is 15 (a very complex module in
  296. my opinion).  The output can be printed to a GEMINI 10X printer or
  297. compatible.  Sorry, I only have a GEMINI 10X and couldn't test the
  298. program on another printer.  If enough interest is shown, I can change
  299. the program to read various printer drivers.  There are
  300. display/print output options; output only one module in a
  301. program, or a range of pages within a module, or all pages.  An editor can
  302. be Pexec'd from the program for the creation of flow chart
  303. source files.  I've tested the Mark Williams MicroEmacs and
  304. also Daniel Lawrence's EMACS 3.10 and they work fine.  There
  305. are also on-line help screens.
  306.  
  307. However, the docs for this are taking a lot of my time and
  308. I'd rather not spend the effort if no one is interested.
  309. Also, I'd like this to be a shareware program because I
  310. think it is useful and would appreciate some reward for all
  311. of the time I've expended in it's creation.

  329. Is anyone using JRD's port of gnuemacs, version 18.55, with a large screen
  330. terminal? I have a moniterm, and this version uses just the upper left
  331. quarter of the screen. This version does not use a termcap, so the number
  332. of lines and columns must be hardwired somewhere, but where?

  349. My original ST mouse (1988) is acting flaky.  The
  350. pointer will only move down when I direct it upwards
  351. or downward.  Right/left motion is fine.
  352.  
  353. I've noticed a gradual decay of its behavior over the
  354. past week where it would move the pointer only down
  355. sometimes, but now it seems stuck in the downwards
  356. mode.
  357.  
  358. Is anybody familiar with this problem?  Is it just the
  359. untimely death of my ST mouse?  Is it a virus?
  360.  
  361. If it's the mouse, can it be fixed easily?  If not,
  362. any suggestions/prices on a new one?  I hear that
  363. Golden Image makes a nice one.  How about the new
  364. STe/TT mice?  Cost is a major consideration,
  365. performance is secondary.
  366.  
  367. If it's a virus, are there any tried and true methods
  368. to nuke it?

  464. I am using AMC-GDos, and it works fine, but I have one problem:
  465. the printout with a NEC P6 has horizontal white stripes,
  466. obviously because the printer feeds the paper a few milimeters
  467. too much. How can I solve this problem?

  487. I played with the Book a bit in Chicago.  I'll agree with everyone else that
  488. the display is remarkably good.  People whio had used them for awhile seemed
  489. to be able to use the pointing device easily, but it sure felt strange tp me.
  490. Pricing was publicly discussed, with something in the general ballpark of
  491. $2000 being representative (a 'Portfolio Book' was also talked about, but
  492. I only have that third-hand.  About 50% more expensive.  MS-DOS).  There
  493. was definite talk about having the Book in retail channels by January, but
  494. since they clearly didn't have warehouses full of them NOW, I think an extra
  495. month would be a good guess.

  513. Yes, in Germany there is a Public Domain TeX Shell, which comes with the
  514. PD TeX System (10 Discs). It does its business well, but its in german.
  515. But modyfying the Menues should be no problem with a RCS.

  557. the show in Chicago 10 days ago Atari US said TOS 2.06 was on schedule for
  558. US release in early January, that both the Atari label CD ROM drive and
  559. provisions for connecting most other SCSI CD ROMs to the ST were nearing
  560. release, and that US developers who had shown special need were already able
  561. to buy ASV set-ups.  FSM GDOS, which he had previously accused of being
  562. mythical, could be seen running in several places.  He should know better.

  574. for it? WHilst in the UK we do a lot better than the US, we too get missed

  600.         Latest update on CD ROM drives. On GEnie, Bob Brodie said Atari has
  601. dropped plans on producing their own drive. They can't compete with third
  602. party drives. However, the good news is that they will release MetaDos, the
  603. CD ROM driver, as freeware. I've heard ICD is also working on a driver for
  604. their host adapters, so soon we'll be able to use them.
